Frequently Asked Questions

What Causes Infertility?
Infertility can be caused by a variety of factors including age, lifestyle, medical conditions, and genetic issues. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), infertility affects about 10-15% of couples globally. In India, around 10-14% of the population faces infertility issues, with higher rates in urban areas due to stress, pollution, and lifestyle changes.
What are the statistics of infertility patients according to WHO and the Indian government?
The World Health Organization estimates that about 48 million couples and 186 million individuals live with infertility globally. In India, it is estimated that 1 in 6 couples face infertility problems, translating to approximately 27.5 million couples.
Why are infertility hospitals rising and what about the unaffordability due to cost?
The rise in infertility hospitals is due to increased awareness and advancements in fertility treatments. However, the high cost of treatments like IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) makes them unaffordable for many. Treatments can range from ₹1,00,000 to ₹3,00,000 per cycle, which is beyond the reach of many couples in need.
What is Thottil and why was it initiated?
Thottil was initiated by Dr. Aruna Ashok, the Clinical Director of A4 Hospitals and Fertility Centre, after witnessing the heartbreak of couples who could not afford IVF treatment. Thottil aims to provide financial assistance and support to those in need of fertility treatments.
Who can avail of Thottil's services?
Any Indian woman or couple who does not have a child and is in need of fertility assistance can apply. Priority is given to those in poor economic conditions.
Where can I get treated?
Currently, treatments are available only at A4 Hospitals and its group of hospitals.
Can I take other treatments apart from IVF?
Yes, other fertility treatments apart from IVF are available through Thottil.
How soon will I get treated?
Treatment is provided based on a queue system, which depends on the amount of funds raised for each individual or couple.
Does Thottil guarantee to raise funds for me?
Fundraising is done with the good intention of helping those in need. However, Thottil Foundation or A4 Hospitals and its group cannot guarantee that sufficient funds will be raised for every applicant.
